Traditional Thai Massage

Have you ever banged your elbow...or hit your shin ? What is the first thing you do- (after saying OUCH)? You instinctively grab the injured area and rub it to alleviate the pain. That is a form of massage. We all do it ...It's natural...and it works.

Massage is intended to increase circulation of the blood and lymphatic fluids in our bodies, bringing additional nutrients to the cells and removing cell waste. When we are stressed, our muscles tighten and restrict the flow of fluids in our circulatory systems creating a lack of nutrients for our cells and a build-up of cell waste. This makes our bodies feel stiff and sore. This can lead to muscle aches and spasms and overall tension. With massage, you can loosen and relax the muscles, which will, in turn, increase the flow of your circulatory systems and nutrients to your cells, refreshing and relaxing the entire body.

What will massage do for you?

Massage Reduces the Effects of Stress
Research studies conducted in the United States, Europe, and Asia have documented that beyond the fact that massage  "feels good" it also has an impressive range of physical, mental, and emotional benefits. Up to 90% of all visits to primary care physicians are for stress related complaints.

Massage activates your body's Parasympathetic nervous system which counteracts your body's negative response to stress by reducing muscle tension and allowing your heart rate, blood pressure and circulation to return to normal.

Relaxes Tense Muscles
Stress, Injury, Overuse, Misuse and Poor Cirulation can all cause pain and discomfort as well as restricted range of motion.

Massage stretches and loosens tight mucles and connective tissue helping to reduce pain and increase your range of motion.

Increases Blood Circulation
When muscles are tight or in a state of chronic tension the flow of blood and lymph (the system which helps remove toxins) is decreased. Blood brings in new nutrients and oxygen for cells to use for optimum function and lymph is the system which removes toxins so they do not build up.

Massage helps increase the flow of both blood and lymph so that energy producing nutrients and oxygen are brought into the cells as well as metabolic wastes being carried away. This leads to an increase in energy.

Decreases Chronic Pain
Chronic pain is caused by either injury or illness.
Massage helps to reduce chronic pain by  activating nerve receptor signals to temporarily block chronic pain signals from reaching the brain. Secondly massage stimulates the release of endorphins (the body's natural pain killer) into the brain and nervous system to reduce the feelings of pain.

Strengthens the Immune System
The Lymphatic System plays a major role in fighting off infection and healing injuries.
Massage increases the circulation of lymph throughout the body thus helping your body to recover from as well as fight off infection and recover from injuries and illness faster.
"If you have massage every week, you will have 2/3 less illness." H. Gruenn, M.D., Los Angeles, CA

Can Improve Nerve Function
Muscle tension can press on nerves causing numbness, tingling, or pain, i.e.: sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome etc.

Massage may reduce or eliminate the pain caused by the pressure on nerves by relaxing the involved muscles and increasing nerve function.

Helps You Sleep Better
Tension and stress from everyday living can disrupt your sleep leaving you tired and emotionally drained.

Massage relaxes tense muscles, calms your nervous system and helps your breathing to become deeper which encourages a good nights sleep.

Improves Skin Tone
Smog, sun, and poor diet all tend to take a toll on your skin. Pores become blocked from smog and poor diet and skin becomes dryer with age.

Massage dilates the blood capillaries of the skin and helps unclog blocked sebaceous glands (oil producing glands of the skin) helping to moisturize your skin leading to improved skin texture.

ABOUT YOUR MASSAGE
Your massage will take place on a foam mat on the floor or bed which is covered with a clean sheet. You will remain fully clothed. You will be asked if you have any medical problems or conditions which I should know about or any areas which you would like special attention to i.e., lower back, neck, shoulder, etc.

A pressing and releasing method is used to open the meridian lines of the body. I will work on your feet, legs, abdomen, chest, arms, hands, while in the laying face up. While laying face down on the mat I will work on the feet, legs, pelvic region, back, and shoulders. You will then sit up so that the upper back and shoulder areas are accessible, after which you will lay back down on your back for a face and scalp massage. during the massage Yoga stretches are used to realign the meridians and muscle then help to keep the meridians open and flowing smoothly.

There will be peaceful music in the background and a hint of aromatherapy in the air. It is a truly pampering experience.
